When I read in the Wall Street Journal that racing bikes
weigh 15 lbs by racing requirements and cost $20-$40 thousand dollars, I had to
see them.
The photo on the right is a racer on his bike; the photo on
the left is one of the racers in the trials run here in San Francisco, today.
I don’t see the money invested in the bikes. By a rough calculation, I figure that five lbs can be cut off the actual weight of the bike, easily, and five pounds could be added back in the form of 24-karat gold plate and still cost less than $20,000. It would never rust.
