
I think there is a distinction between prejudice against black male teenagers dressed in ghetto clothes and anti-black racism.
Imagine the same group of young blacks, now change the age. A group of black males in their 40s or 50s would not be frightening, nor would a group of black 10 year olds. Change the gender, girls, and few people would feel it threatening. Now put socially acceptable uniforms on the same group of males; police uniforms, military uniforms, tuxedos…conservative suits, etc … definitely not threatening. Now put the same group in front of a police station, a military recruiting station or in a university gym … not threatening.
Some prejudices against a group of young black males in ghetto clothes is not necessarily anti-black racism.
