I was wrong in two earlier blogs. I said we would be hit by four strikes in July. Wrong. Three of the unions folded, defeated by reality (Chronicle, hotel workers and nurses at St. Luke’s.) The fourth, BART got what they wanted and passed on the cost to transit riders because BART is a government monopoly. Wonder what all the advocates of public transit have to say about transit unions?
I also thought that the wonderful science exhibition of human bodies, The Universe Within, would run into trouble with the Falun Gong. Wrong. It was the Board of Supervisors who today passed a law making it illegal for the show or any show without letters of permission from the deceased cadavers or their families to come to San Francisco.
Reminds me of the Holy Roman Catholic Church which forbid all research on cadavers up until a century ago; that research has given us the knowledge about blood circulation and most other elements of physiology. Doctors should have the right to refuse medical treatment to any current San Francisco supervisor.
