I remember a few years ago, reading in the Wall Street Journal, that large amounts of money sent to Social Security was going into an Earnings Suspense File because there was no correct SS number connected to the money.
The amount of the money annually going into the Earnings Suspense File is significant, probably $50 billion. Of that a reasonable chunk, estimated at $7 billion to $20 billion is from illegal immigrants using made-up SS numbers.
It seems to me that we could have a mood shift in this country concerning Mexican immigration, if some of the money now going into the Suspense File, were remitted to the high use immigration services in border states, such as emergency medical services and K-12 education.
The idea is to diminish anti-immigrant sentiment by eliminating one of the arguments against immigrants --- that they cost Border States extra tax money.
