The Onion is on the newsstands in San Francisco. Not everywhere; in fact, not in any pattern discernable to me. But the Onion has arrived and is available every Wednesday morning.
My hope is that it will bring a little levity to the misery of San Francisco political life. When I read the Onion, with its hokey fake stories; I find it impossible to read the local rags without seeing all the serious articles as versions of the Onion.
I notice that all the NYTimes editorials and articles are deadly serious as befits a self-righteous ideological rant. On the other hand, the Wall Street Journal editorials often have jokes and puns in them, as befits an institution that knows it is important and tries to be a little deferential.
