I have posted a new photo (by my friend Per Madsen) in honor of my new award for lifetime achievement as a social activist. Note the impish grin.
I am on the No-fly List. The list is made up by Homeland Security of potential terrorists. It is not possible to have my name removed from the list and there is no way to get an explanation of why my name is on the list.
The only consequence of being on the list is that every time I pick-up a boarding pass, I have to show my drivers' license and wait until the clerk goes into a back-room to check with and notify Homeland Security. How did I earn this honor?
How did I earn this honor? I am probably the oldest Republican, army veteran, Nixon campaign staffer, George Bush supporter on the No-fly List.
I suspect the honor is due me. I started working in civil rights in 1957 and I still work on corporate meritocracy and diversity. My FBI file in 1973, when I had a lawyer get it for me, was ten pages long and unreadable because it was all blacked out.
I was recognized for my work in civil rights a few years ago with a standing ovation by the 1,000+ congregation of Oakland's largest black church.
I have never used violence, threatened it nor advocated it. I have always supported self-defense, including both American invasions of Iraq and everything Israel does.
I am planning a party this weekend to celebrate my new honor. Hopefully I can find a medal and ribbon to wear commemorating this recognition of my lifetime achievement as an activist.
Have you earned your No-fly List award?
