I am quite suspicious of my own observations on this. I await confirmation with data.
I see and feel a growing separation between men and women. I’m not referring to the 1990s “men’s movement” with large gatherings of brotherhood. There is something new in the air that more resembles an Islamic/Latin separation of the daily lives of men and women into different and separate spheres.
If I could measure this change it would be done from looking at random photos of people at airports and transit points and in social gatherings at restaurants.
Over the past decade we would see a shift from the hypothetical earlier numbers: 30% men alone, 20% women alone, 10% pairs of men, 10% pairs of women, 20% mixed pairs and groups, 5% groups of men and 5% groups of women.
The shift would be to the current total of 45% men and women alone (formerly 50%), we would still see the same 20% male and female pairs, but the former 20% mixed pairs and groups has shrunk to 15% and the pure groups of men and women has increased to 20% (from 10%); the 20% would consist of male 8% female 12%.
Men and women of the same ages and social status now have different political opinions. We’re getting 40-60% male-female on some issues. That alone should be enough to drive us apart, for mere personal comfort.
