I subscribed to the New Republic, a few
years ago, because of its excellent book reviews edited by Leon
Weiseltier. I need to know what good books are on the market. Books
shape the world of the future.
The rest of the New Republic magazine
is an intellectual cross between Moveon.org and Michael Moore. These
days, Weiseltier has been hanging out too much on the upper East side
of Manhattan and with his compatriots at the New Republic .... with the consequent declining moral effect on his mind.
When I read Roger Kimball's review (in New Criterion) of Leszek Kolakowski's recent books, I immediately subscribed to New Criterion and ordered several of Kolakowski's books. I have always loved Kimball's work and have read articles by Kolakowski, but none of his books.
Hello New Criterion, goodbye New Republic.
