IXIA is a store in the 2300 block of Market, between 16th and 17th streets, on the south side. It could not be called a flower shop because it is filled with stones, bamboo, branches, moss and a wild variety of esthetic artifacts traditionally associated with ikebana.
IXIA is most closely related to the new forms of ikebana (the Japanese flower arranging art) that one sees at the Sogetsu school in Tokyo.
The two storefront windows are changed weekly and they provide passers by with a truly exciting and innovative public art museum. Personally, I think IXIA is better than any museums or galleries in The City.
