For the record. Homeless commonly camp in front of Catholic Churches, a few mainline denominations and in front of no evangelical churches. This pattern has been true since the word homeless entered our vocabulary in 1981. 
I know the date of this word, homeless, which came from New York, because I built a park for winos in 1979. The word at the time was streetpeople.
