My son has written a book, a wonderful book. I can recommend it to everyone who is in the world of martial arts and Chinese studies.
It is about the likely origins of Chinese Martial Arts. He has been teaching all the major Chinese martial arts for over 25 years and now teaches all over the world from Chicago to London, to Berlin to Jerusalem to Ramallah.
The book is about the origins of the Martial arts in theater and Chinese religion. It is an in depth history.
Every tribe on the planet has its own martial art and that art is often connected to ritual performance and dance. My son shows the origins of modern Chinese martial arts in the core arts of China’s folk lore and theater.
The book is even more powerful if you have seen any of the standard Chinese performances of the Journey to the North, Outlaws of the Marsh and Journey to the West. Much of the overlap of the arts is visible.
My son is a good writer, so it is easy and fascinating reading. The references and annotation are impressive and valuable. The book is also in hard copy, but I read it on Amazon Kindle.
