My son has come up with a brilliant analysis of contemporary America. I use his material at my peril; he does a much better job of explaining and using it.
America's colleges and Universities were founded to protect and maintain our domestic hereditary elite. The same was true of the media which was owned by the landed class for 150 years and promoted the interests of the hereditary elite for most of America's history.
The hereditary elite gave way to commercial meritocracy in the late 1950's due to the rise of meritocracy in the WWII military. We lost our hereditary elite and its extensive interconnected clubs and social registers.
The hereditary elite is gone but the structure remains.
That is why we still have 'legacy preferences' and tenure in academe and all the media, but one, are now owned by arcane corporate giants.
The Left has scrambled to take the place of the hereditary elite at the top of the academic and media pyramids. They have three elements in common with the old order.
- 1) The Left tolerates no dissent and no free thinkers.
- 2) They look backwards to the socialist European order.
- 3) They are fervent advocates of the status-quo-anti with their anti-commerce-Armageddon environmentalism.
It is these commonalities with the old hereditary elite that direct their energies to achieve success in academe and media. They are also losers because they choose the two worlds with no connection to the meritocracy of the work-a-day world of commerce and engineering.
This explanation does a lot to explain the persistence of a dead and malignant Leftist world view. A world view that was destroyed in the 20th Century with its many failures and disastrous outcomes.
