I am continually expected to listen to wise opinion that tells me that the Chinese government is potentially unstable
I wish I could ask these experts to explain how Singapore has remained stable for 50 years and shows no signs of instability.
Singapore is Chinese and has been in the modern world, where Singaporeans can travel the planet freely. Singapore is obviously much smaller and more economically homogeneous but it does not have much of a political democracy.
I would cite Singapore as an example of a country with semi-democratic practices that is culturally Chinese and has been very stable.
With Singapore as my example I find experts who worry about Chinese instability to be unreasonably alarmist.
