I have never been much of a fund raiser. In fact I have been a failure at it which is why I am able to understand why others succeed. I have managed fundraisers and fundraising campaigns while not personally hitting up any donor.
Fund raising for anything is always the same. A genuine effort must be made to include the donor in an appropriate social circle.
I know several donors to Democratic party campaigns. The most distinctive characteristic of my Democratic donor friends is that they are socially awkward and lack any inclusive social circle.
This is especially true for Silicon Valley nerds... a great source of funding for the Democratic party. The reason is simple. These nerds have no friends and no real social networks. By giving money to the Democratic Party they are invited to many parties where they meet other nerds who have money and consider themselves peers. Democratic Party fund raisers create a social circle for rich nerds.
Since this is a desperate need on the part of rich Silicon Valley nerds, the Democratic Party has been very successful.
Republicans are comfortable, emotionally stable people who have functional social networks and this element of fundraising is not necessary. Just bring Republican friends together in their own existing networks and they make donations.
