I don’t like most bookstores.
For a person who has published 11 books that generated tens of thousands of dollars of income, for me this is a startling statement.
What I am reporting on and what I noticed is a subtle personal emotion.
When I walk through a bookstore and look at the books, magazines, layout and subject areas I have no trouble figuring out who the buyers believe the customers to be.
That is the unpleasantness. That is what I don’t like. It is very common for all the Lefty-hate-Bush, hate Palin, hate hate books to be prominent and well displayed usually at eye level or with the front cover facing the customer.
I can go to a party where everybody is a Lefty, I do this almost all the time in San Francisco. Its not a problem for me. Most people do not wear their politics on their chest. I do not like going into a business where the politics of the other customers is blatant. It is flat-out uncomfortable.
I prefer to buy books from Amazon or e-books for my ebook reader.
