The crowd of boats on the Bay was the most I have ever seen from the water. It was fairly crowded and sailing past each other was a challenge in a 25 knot wind.
The ship is owned by Tom Perkins a long time venture capital investor who, these days, is promoting green tech.
The ship has nice streamlined lines and only slightly resembles a square rigger. The elongated protruding cabin looks like a standard yacht design. It is for sale for $170 million.
Perkins is described in a book on his ship: Mines Bigger. Which relates to my reaction. This ship is a politically correct male erection of no historic or economic consequence.
