I want to point out two contributions that Dara Torres has made to us all. One is to show us that there can be a physical regime that maintains super athletic prowess well past the ages we thought it disappeared. We will learn more as she and her trainers tell us. As of now we know that she gets an hour of massage after her workouts and races to accelerate the expulsion of uric acid.
The other contribution is to identify a sport which does not damage the body: swimming. If someone wants an athletic activity that is not damaging to the body the choice should be swimming as Dara Torres has proven.
I wish I had learned to swim earlier. I learned to love it after I gave up running in my early 50s.
