My photos of Shanghai came back today and there are two Chinese social inventions to report. The first is on the right. You can click to enlarge the photo. The woman bicyclist is wearing a common visor that can be pushed up and serve as a sunshade. She is also wearing a white sleeve cover that goes from her wrists around her back and covers her arms, shoulders and blouse. This visor and sleeve cover are protection against a variety of bicycle hazards including exhaust and dust. A common sight.
The man on the left, I call Mr. Cool. He is tying his shirt up into a knot in front of his breast plate which is cooling on this hot day. Is this a style which will catch on globally? It certainly is cool and we saw, maybe, a dozen men using this style.
